WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

Let's admit it, sometimes devised theatre workshops can feel boring, disorganized or alienating. And this can turn students (and teachers!) off to the process of creating original works. 

But it doesn't have to be that way!

TIFE Theatre has created a devised theatre framework that is inviting and engaging for all students. From classrooms to State Thespian Festivals, students have been empowered to create powerful, engaging, hilarious and moving pieces of theatre that are student-centered and student driven. 

The anchor of our devising approach is metaphors, allowing students to grapple with important topics with the safety and distance of abstraction.

From there, students are encouraged to explore their topics with very limited language, instead focusing on movement, ensemble connection and a clear point of view (even if that point of view reveals complexity or ambiguity).  

Ultimately, our devised workshops are able to leverage Jason's experience as a working playwright to help students give their pieces structure, narrative, purpose and a satisfying, accessible final product.
